This traditional Ploughman's platter is packed with classic British flavours including cheese, ham, chutney, crusty bread and pickles. Perfect for picnics, summer lunches or relaxed sharing boards, it's an easy and impressive spread that's full of rustic charm.
A Ploughman's lunch is originally a cold British meal of bread, cheese and pickled onions. Additional items like ham, hard boiled eggs, salad vegetables, butter and a sweet pickle, like Branston, can be added.
Rather than being a recipe, this ploughman's platter is more of an assembly job and is easily customised with different types of ham, cheeses, chutneys, pickles and items like pork pies and scotch eggs.
Tips
- Optional variations:
- Vegetarian ploughman's - leave out the pork pie and ham and add hard boiled eggs.
- Picnic ploughman's - pack up the ingredients in separate sandwich bags or airtight containers to transport and serve at your picnic location.
- This ploughman's platter recipe is easily adapted if you're cooking for less or more people.
