Easy Pizza Dough

Learn how to make easy homemade pizza dough with just a few simple ingredients. Perfect for crispy pizza bases and homemade pizzas.

Ingredients

  • 1 tbsp olive oil plus extra for greasing
  • 7 g (0.2 oz) dried yeast
  • 150 ml ( cup) warm water
  • 250 g (2 cups) 00 flour
  • 5 g salt

Instructions

  • Add the olive oil and yeast to a bowl with the warm water (the water should be around 35C - you can use a meat thermometer to check) and leave it to sit for 5 minutes while you get everything else ready.
  • Sieve the flour and salt into a bowl or the bowl of your food mixer, if you are using one.
  • Gradually mix the liquid with the dry ingredients until fully combined.
  • If using a machine, turn to a low to medium setting and knead for 5 minutes. If doing this by hand, knead for 10 minutes, until the dough is smooth and elastic.
  • Grease a baking tray with olive oil and place the dough on it, cover with greased cling film and put in a warm place for 20 minutes.
  • Remove the dough from the tray and divide into three small balls (around 140g each), and place them back on the tray and cover with the cling film and leave them to rise for about an hour, until doubled in size.
  • After the dough has risen, flatten out each ball with your hands to a rough pizza shape and top with your sauce and toppings.

Notes

  • Optional variations:
    • Quick pizza dough - use warm water and allow a shorter rise.
    • Overnight pizza dough - let the dough ferment slowly in the fridge.
    • Whole wheat pizza dough - replace part of the flour with whole wheat flour.
    • Thin crust pizza dough - roll the dough thinner before baking.
    • Deep pan pizza dough - use more dough and press it into a pan.
  • The easy pizza dough recipe is easily doubled if you want to make more pizzas!
