This quick and easy garlic baguette recipe transforms a simple baguette into a buttery, garlicky delight in 30 minutes. Perfect for pasta, soups, or as a snack!

I usually just buy a garlic baguette or slices from the supermarket and have said loads of times "I'll need to try making my own...".  Well here it is...and it's delicious, quick and easy!   The garlic butter can be made ahead of time and kept in the fridge or freezer for when you want to use it.

Tips

  • Vegan option - use vegan butter or olive oil.
  • Herb variations - try fresh chives or rosemary instead of parsley for a fresh twist.
  • Add cheese - top the baguette with grated mozzarella, parmesan or cheddar for extra indulgence.
  • Spicy twist - try adding a pinch of chilli flakes or cayenne pepper for a bit of heat.
  • This quick and easy garlic baguette recipe is easily adapted if you're cooking for more people.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I make this garlic baguette ahead of time?

Yes - prepare the garlic butter and spread it on the baguette in advance. Wrap it in foil and keep it in the fridge for up to 2 days. Bake when ready to serve.

Can I use a different type of bread?

Absolutely - french bread, ciabatta, or even sliced sandwich bread work well. Adjust the baking time as needed.

How do I store leftovers?

Wrap leftover garlic baguette in foil and keep it in the fridge for up to 3 days. Reheat in the oven or toaster for the best texture.

Can I freeze garlic bread?

Yes - freeze the prepared (but unbaked) garlic bread in foil for up to 3 months. Bake from frozen, adding a few extra minutes to the cooking time.

Can I make this recipe without butter?

Yes - substitute olive oil for a lighter version or use a dairy-free butter alternative.

What can I serve with garlic baguette?

Serve it alongside pasta dishes, soups, stews, or salads. It also makes a great snack with marinara or cheese dip.

How to make this Quick and Easy Garlic Baguette

Ingredients

  • 1 baguette (28cm long, weighing approx. 150g)

For the garlic butter:

  • 100g salted butter, slightly soft
  • 3 cloves garlic, crushed
  • 2 tbsp flat leaf parsley, finely chopped

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 200C/180C fan/gas 6. Mix all the garlic butter ingredients together in a bowl. Wrap in cling film or baking paper, roll into a log and chill in the fridge for 10 minutes, until firm.
  2. Slice the baguette into about 12 slices but not all the way through, leaving the base intact to hold it together.
  3. Once the butter is firm, unwrap it and cut 12 x 0.5cm slices.  Press a slice of butter into each of the cuts.  Be careful as the bread will bend slightly into a semi-circle shape once you've put over half the butter slices in - press it carefully at each end to straighten it.
  4. If you have any butter leftover, wrap it back up and put it in the freezer.   When you want to use it again, place it into the fridge to thaw a bit, but still remain firm for slicing.
  5. Wrap the baguette in foil, place on a baking tray and bake for 10 minutes.   Unwrap the foil and cook for a further 5 minutes to crisp it up.
